What About our Tranny Friends?
The DADT Repeal provides all Americans a cause for celebration. It marks an end to a failed policy that ousted over 11,000 service-people from our armed forces, including 58 Arabic translators since 9/11 (#goodone) . I am proud that the US has matured enough to count themselves among the 25 countries that allow gays to serve openly, and the formal inclusion of gays & lesbians in the military has historically been a harbinger in other Western countries for more inclusive policies towards the gay community in general -- this is inspiring.
However
This is an 'LGB' victory - We're missing the T.
Our transgendered friends are still not allowed to openly serve in the United States because of their "gender identity disorder" and "defective genitalia". (click on the image above for details)
I feel like starting a grassroots campaign to send US military offices pictures of genitalia and corresponding letters inquiring about their effectiveness, anyone with me?
Either way, let this be a reminder to the greater community that including a new (trending) label amongst what is "appropriate" every decade is NOT what liberates people, rather, liberation requires a vigilance toward the acceptance and love of all people, at all times, regardless of how they identify.
With that in mind, here's Maurica:
